Apartment, part 0

Before I post a tour of our new place, I thought I would do a quick "before" and share the pics J took when we went to advertise our old apartment. I think this will provide some context for when we get to the "after":

Previous office. Behind and to our left is a big closet and a second bookshelf.

Previous LR, looking in from the front door. Our bikes were to the left, as was the coat closet.

Previous kitchen. Sink to the right, back door to the left. (Note the color of the table...)

I'm getting all excited to show you the new place!

yesterday...

1. Played soccer and ouch, now I have a reason to start working out harder. :)

2. The mountains were out!

3. Found a good used bookstore.

30 wishes

So this might surprise you, but a good chunk of the blogs that I follow are the outfit-a-day fashion kind. I love the everyday inspiration these bloggers provide (I'm not naturally fashion-forward or even fashion-competent) and hearing about what everyone in the blog world is up to. Currently, the buzz is all about 30 for 30.

You should read Kendi's explanation of 30 for 30 (she invented it!) but if you don't want to click through, basically 30 for 30 means using 30 pieces of clothing to build 30 outfits in roughly 30 days.

I've always thought the idea is great and now that I've started this blog, I considered doing a 30 for 30 for about, oh 2 minutes this morning. I quickly realized there are several insurmountable obstacles to achieving that goal:
  1. While there are bloggers with office-y jobs who pull this off...I have yet to find someone with a strict workplace dress code (eg banker/MD/lawyer) who did it, probably because there is too great a divide between formal work and personal dressing. I like my danskos, but I'm not wearing them for drinks with my honey!
  2. I start work next week, and don't want to commit to taking photos without knowing my daily routine. Also, I have few camera skills and don't want to impose on J.
  3. Wait, I haven't posted any outfits yet--is that even part of my vision for this blog?

You're probably thinking, "Did you not have a plan when you started this thing?" Well, no, not beyond keeping in touch and being positive. And I can see how posting fun outfits would be a positive thing...but also that it could be time-consuming and feed into my perfectionist side (egads! this belt and purse don't match!).

"Fine," you reply, "But all good blogs have a focus--fashion, food, home, career, whatever--what is yours going to be?" Um, well, can't it be a little bit of everything? I've written mostly about the apartment so far, because that is what interests me at the moment. I'll probably start writing about cooking soon, because roughly 83% of my non-work thoughts are about food.** And I'll write about whatever else interests me--outfits included.

**In case you were wondering, the remaining break down is 5% fashion, 5% Steelers football, and 7% for everything else: politics, hiking, music, weddings etc.
